Established in 2008 the Wahida Matin Child Vision Centre is a modern paediatric hospital dedicated to providing specialised eye services to blind and vision-impaired children.

Based in Dhaka our hospital has a specialised human resource infrastructure and the necessary equipment to perform sight-restoring cataract surgery for blind children.  Additionally, counselling is provided to children and their parents prior to and post surgery to ensure optimum vision outcomes following treatment.

The Wahida Matin Child Vision Centre is closely linked to our case detection and treatment program.  Children and adolescents identified through KIM are supported to travel to Dhaka to receive sigh-restoring surgery.  All costs associated with travel and treatment are subsidised by our program.

Since the hospital was established we have provided free cataract surgery to over 7,500 children and adolescents.

Our Activities:

  • Comprehensive Eye Care: Provides vision screening, refraction, and treatment for common childhood eye conditions.

  • Rehabilitation and Low Vision Support: Offers vision therapy, assistive devices, and guidance for children with low or partial vision.

  • Community Outreach: Conducts school vision programs, awareness campaigns, and parent education sessions on eye health.

  • Training and Collaboration: Works with local health workers, teachers, and government partners to strengthen community-based child eye health systems.

The Wahida Matin Child Vision Centre stands as a model for accessible pediatric eye care, combining clinical services, education, and advocacy to protect the sight and future of children across Bangladesh.

In addition, our hospital conducts epidemiological and qualitative research with support from the International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) and conducts frequent program monitoring and evaluation.  Read more about our research here.
